Physical therapy prerequisites and GPA?
I'm currently a pre-pharmacy student at my university and am getting my degree in biological sciences. However, I have recently been thinking about going into physical therapy. I have taken many biology courses beyond the scope of the prerequisites for PT, such as ecology, evolution, genetics, and histology. These courses were difficult and lowered my GPA. Do you think the admissions board at PT school will take into account my heavier course load? Or should I retake some of my classes to boost my GPA?
Although your overall GPA still needs to meet minimum requirements (usually 3.0 at state schools and 2.5 at "top tier" schools), they will usually look more closely at your prerequisite GPA. If you have a solid 3.5 in your prerequisites, you will still be a very good candidate.
