IS it safe to brush a wig or use a curling iron?
It's safe to brush a wig as long as you use the proper tools. I personally prefer using just my fingers, but also use a wide toothed comb for my less tangle wigs, which is actually the recommended tool (though I find that it pulls the fibers too much and leaves them all gross at the ends).
You also shouldn't use a curling iron on a wig. Straightening wigs is really easy (pin a wig to a wig head, brush it out, pour hot water over it, and let dry hanging straight), but curling is tricky. I've tried a few different ways and can't get it any curlier than a crimped look. It also is only temporary and so needs to be either hair sprayed in or done the day before you want to wear it. The way that worked best for me was putting the hair in braids or curlers, dumping hot water over it 2-4 times (letting it cool but not dry in between treatments) and then letting it dry and undoing the braids/curlers.
